February 20 2020 - the day my life ended, midafternoon

This is reposted from my Facebook page.

t turns out that there are big benefits to 1: working for a renal care company and already having relationships with the nephrologists at the top of the food chain there, and 2: having a sister who's a critical care nurse who also knows big shots who can tell us what questions to ask.
Doug's daughter and I decided several hours ago that the only chance Doug has is if we get him transferred to a hospital that can do CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy). He needs to be dialyzed 24/7, and this hospital cannot do that. We are certain that he will not survive another night without dialysis ongoing.
My boss made some phone calls, and one of our Chief nephrologists got in touch with Doug's; I've also talked to the ICU Intensivist and the SICU director, and everyone is on board.
We're waiting for them to insert an arterial line, and as soon as that's done, they'll be putting in the order to transfer him to Centennial.
This is a risky proposition, but leaving him here is a bigger one.
Keep the prayers, good vibes, and whatever else coming his way, please. ❤️ And please send some love to Doug's best friend, Michael Philip Welch, who has been here every single day. He's been a rock, and I love him for loving Doug so much.
